Happy belated new year! It’s January again, where again I’ve taken advantage of the footballing break in Asia with my colleagues over at Sandals for Goalposts to look back at the year that’s just gone and rank our top Asian performers in the #SFGTop100 series. After the success of our 2015 countdown, it was a tall order given the lack of an Asian Cup to pluck many of our top performers from. Looking back however, the AFC Champions League, World Cup qualifiers along with an interesting Olympic campaign made it another year to remember.

Olympics 2016: SFG Team Previews and Coverage

The Rio Olympics football tournament kicks off tomorrow in Brasilia ahead of the games’ official opening ceremony on Friday. While football isn’t widely accepted as an Olympic sport by European audiences, Asia go into the games hoping to live up to the challenge of the rest of the world, as they achieved in London last time around scooping a Bronze medal for their troubles.

Along with the lovely people at Sandals for Goalposts, we’ve put together a team-by-team preview of the African and Asian participants and will keep you up to date with up to date coverage, reaction and digest from the tournament over the coming weeks.
